Reflecting the Positives in Me – #AtoZchallenge – B is for…
There’s good in all of us. And looking at someone, we only see what they want us to see. We don’t know the circumstances that have made that person act the way they do. We cannot know their true self unless they open up. It is only when they refuse to open up and share their challenges, when they bite your hand repeatedly, that you have to back down. But there is always good in everyone. You just have to accept that they may have buried it deep a long time ago.

How nice for all the people that you meet. 🙂

I also tend to see the good in everyone. And every person deserves a chance.

I remember, years ago, sitting around with a couple women friends (who unfortunately I let slip from my life) with a bottle of wine. One of them said “What’s special about me is that I see what’s special about you” I have never forgot that and try to be that kind of person.

This is very true and sometimes when people are being cranky or sour I try to remind myself that there might be a reason that I don’t know and I shouldn’t take their mood personal.

Great words of wisdom! Reminds me of the old saying about walking a mile in another person’s shoes. Nice post. 🙂 Bookmarking your site! (since I’m not on Facebook)

Great posts for the challenge. I also (mostly) see the good in everyone, especially right away.

Thanks! Usually our “gut” feelings are correct! 🙂

Another simple piece of philosophy, but very true, and dare I say, insightful.

Thank you and I Hope you will come back often! 😀

This is such a powerful message. So true. We really never know what’s deep within the people around us, just like they don’t know what we’re keeping to ourselves. Love the post!

My husband wears his “mask” often! I guess I do too. So I know what it’s like to have a story behind the mask. People look at me often and think I’m stuck up just because I don’t talk much, or I don’t assert myself because I’m shy, or I can’t do anything with friends because I have to take care of my husband. People just don’t know, don’t get it, or don’t want to. 🙂

I find it very, very hard to see the BEST in everyone!

You just got to look HARD to find it. Some people bury it so deep that it takes years to find. 🙂

I agree with you and we just have to look past the outside to the inside.

I left this comment over at my blog, but I know with the Challenge it’s hard to visit a blog twice. I wanted you to know how much I appreciate your comment over there:
As soon as I saw your blog name, I felt an immediate connection to you. Reading your comment made it that much stronger. I thank you. Thank you for who you are and what you do. My hubby is also a military vet with some issues from his service (although not combat related). A career in the service changes people. Mostly for the better, but if they aren’t cautious, it can also put them into that military mentality and when it doesn’t translate to the civilian sector – man, it’s rough. So, I commend you for sticking by your husband.
Okay, now onto *your* blog, which is really why I’m here. I absolutely love your perspective on life and on people. You’re right, it’s better to think the best of people, rather than toss them to the curb…unless they harm you mentally or physically, they deserve a chance. Usually, they have been damaged by someone else somewhere along the line.
Hugs to you!!

Well said, Lady Jai! It is hard though when a big porcupine person is bristling in front of you. I make eye contact, smile, and give’em some Jesus.

True enough. Sometimes you just have to soften the bristles just enough (a smile sometimes makes its way through) so you can part them to see that little gem they hide.

I do try to see the best in everyone, but sometimes I’m more successful than in others. I suppose it depends on how grumpy I’m feeling as well – which says a lot about me.

We all have our challenges in this department because some people wear a hardened mask while others wear their heart on their sleeve. 🙂 Just keep trying.

Love this one! It’s a tough one for most people to do. I struggle with it more often that I want to admit.
