Today, Bonnie Rae releases her second book in the Nether Trilogy, Nether Soul.
Nether World was the last place Ava Walker pictured spending the rest of her life, but after her mother’s murder, she had no choice. In order to save her little sister, Ava made a deal with the Devil, an unbreakable vow to live amongst the darkness and demons in a city of steel and fire. She’s lost everything. Her mother is gone, her sister and best friend are on the run, and Kaine, the fallen angel who stole her heart, was incinerated right before her eyes.
Life couldn’t get any worse.
But she underestimates Lucifer. He goes back on his word and asks Ava to do the unthinkable: commit herself to his service and be reborn as one of the very creatures she was destined to fight. If she refuses, those dearest to her heart will be sealed with a deadly fate. If she accepts, mankind doesn’t stand a chance.
War is coming, and Ava must make a choice: die or become Death
I was privileged to read and review her first book, Nether Bound. And was very excited when she asked me to beta read her latest book.
You can also purchase her latest book, Nether Soul, on Amazon as well.
I’m honored to be involved in a blog tour and asked her a few questions. I love learning about the process, how everyone gets their ideas, and how things evolve. This is my first author interview, but I had so much fun asking, and getting these answers.
Oh, and there’s a giveaway at the end!
So, without further ado, I give you Bonnie Rae.
First, thanks for hosting this post today on your blog! Blog tours are honestly my favorite part of a book release. I get to work with so many wonderful bloggers and fellow writers. You guys are so awesome and the online writing community support is wonderful. Plus, you all come up with some totally neat questions that are always a blast to answer! =)
1) When did you first realize you wanted to write? Did anyone encourage you along the way?
My grandmother introduced me to books at a very young age, but at age eleven her and my grandfather gave me a copy of Charlotte’s Web by E.B White for my birthday. After reading the book I knew that was what I wanted to do. I wanted to transport people away from their real lives and into the land of make believe. I would write little short stories and draw horrible pictures to go with them (I can’t draw at all) on construction paper and bind the pages together with string. As I got older I graduated to notebook paper and I penned my first novel at age sixteen.
2) What prompted the story for Nether Bound? Did you imagine the whole book at once, or did a particular scene, character, or image grab you and you just needed to get it out?
With Nether Bound I envisioned a scene randomly while attending a writing conference. I was listening to this awesome agent in her workshop when out of nowhere these two characters sitting in a eerie park in the wee hours of the morning crashed into my thoughts. I feverishly started penning out the scene and completely missed the rest of the workshop and all the great advice. But it was worth it. A few months later Nether Bound was a full novel.
3) How did you know it was going to be a series? Did it start off that way? Or did something click mid-way through the book, or even after the first book?
No, I knew right away it would be a three part series. I knew I had this story to tell and that it would need to be told over multiple books because I didn’t want to cram too much into just one.
4) Are any of your characters like you? Or is there a culmination of your traits throughout all your characters? Or do you write what you want to be like?
Ava is very much me when I was her age. A lot of who she is and how she reacts to things in book one are related to things I had to deal with while being a teenager. She’s strong, had to grow up way to fast, and has a fierce love and protection for her family. She is also a little reserved when it comes to love and doesn’t always make the right choices with relationships.
